from the twilight zone of rhythm section international comes a new label for 2017: international black. this is the offshoot’s 3rd release this year and the machine shows no signs of slowing down. bradley zero’s ear for new talent continues to pay off as we are introduced to yet another young pair of producers, mallard & lt, going by the name of ‘j deep’. mallard, a 19 yo jazz student who made a big splash with his debut rs intl ep, ‘verte’, returns with a track aimed more squarely at the dancefloor. although hypnotic and ethereal, it packs a punch, with the arrangement and musicality belying mallard’s musical training at trinity college. on the flip side, mallard joins forces with another promising producer who goes by the name ‘lt’ in their collaborational partnership known as j.deep. complex jazz chords swim around 909’s to create an elevating techno roller that climbs and climbs only to give way to sparse rave stabs and ecstatic snare patterns. tried and tested for the best part of a year, these are 2 serious jams, proven to cause dancefloor frenzy.

esteban adame and dj dex as el coyote returns with two smoking dancefloor tracks. dream dealer takes the los hermanos inspired hi tech latin soul template into edgier territory with a thumping kick drum and deep driving bassline. the e2e4 inspired chords and esteban s wicked solo half way through the track assure dream dealer will be a highlight in any club set. the flip side la frontera leans more to the moodier techno spectrum. the track slowly builds to a melodic hook, a percussive break and a requisite hands in the air moment.

after releasing space control an intergalactic journey into synthesizers, back in 2012, the theremynt duo went on to release a successful, if steady, stream of eps, including robotique de l amou r and vampiros discos (a tribute to brazilian filmmaker ze do caixao). with remixes coming from the likes of david carretta, acid washed and club bizarre, these were playlisted by scene djs such as marvin & guy and ivan smagghe, amongst others. now yann and eva are striking back with their second lp, parallels. it s a record that sees them changing their colour palette and mood, but one that s still haunted by ghosts that lurk within their synthesizers and drum machines. the 10 tracks still exhibit peel s ever shifting vocal style and yann s sophisticated arrangements. but the second lp oscillates between ballad and dancefloor, landing between cosmic disco influences, krautrock and other progressive techno sounds. as a bonus, the album also features a cover of famous 80 s anthem self control. time for something a little different from public release.
eye o is the convergence of a few bay area stalwarts—kevin woodruff, formerly of tussle, and jason schwartz - and “deux o & debut” is their first studio-recorded public offering. the five-track, fifty-minute- long lp is a weaving journey through a pastiche of styles that’re all nephews, cousins, brothers, sisters of one another. kraut-rooted motorik drums reconfigure into more complicated math-y patterns, razor-sharp dance-punk guitars stretch out and dissolve into dubby post-rock atmospherics, synth loops you’d more commonly find in house tracks get grafted onto fuzzy psychedelic breakdowns, hard rock licks lock into chunky industrial grooves.
less for dancefloor destruction and more for trippy weekenders, the instrumental record manages to both be a focused, cerebral, conceptual hunk of fat to chew on and a spaced-out, intuitive ride through the cosmos. for use during those off-kilter small hours of the night just as much as it is vision quests and introspective weekends. it’s rare that an outpouring of so much can feel so simple and sublime.

airhead has put out some great music this year. kicking off with the radiophonic ice of kazzt for mumdance s different circles and just recently the low slung cristobal on ps records his production chops get bolder by the minute. it s no surprise seeing as he spent much of the previous year producing key tracks for the incredible -1-800 dinosaur presents trim- album alongside bullion and boothroyd as well as regularly touring and writing with long-time musical partner james blake. back with another 12- on hemlock, his first since 2014 s rolling october / macondo this time the sound is dustier, warmer, but packing twice the punch all the while retaining his signature understated wild-man groove. both tracks are capable on dancefloor whilst richly layered, packed with detail and arranged for maximum connectivity with contemporary beat styles such as house, techno and breaks. what happened to ricky martin? shaded is the twisted latin stepper you didn t know you needed, so much, right now. polished drums dug into a tweaky sci-fi soundbed make way for the curveball drop not every dj will be able to style out but those brave few that do will reap the reward. captain, we have an incoming transmission. by now, antipolo will be on the long-range scanners of a several fleets in this sector and is finally ready for replication and deployment. beaming out to the far reaches of the dancefloor we have bass, breakbeats and synth hooks but not as we know it together forming an advanced composite bond of extreme strength and malleability.

a new group strut their way down the bordello boardwalk. the chameleon outfit of yellocat, emblazoned with colour, arrive with dans la boutique and are true to their debut 12- title. a deep wardrobe of styles has been raided for this four track ep. first comes the latin funk of -mi hermano-, a lust laden duet of sweet chords and dancefloor desires, before the lounge romance of -tout a&#768,,, moi.- language is played with, spanish shimmies into french before english takes over the flip. -rivals of mars- is brash interplanetary battle. synthlines glisten against vocoder lyrics in an epic struggle between our world and theirs. the pop-scented warmth of -chasing the light- leads the 12- out, a ballad of late night excess amidst the glass and steel of the city.

two of the best tracks off the brasileira lp get an updated dancefloor treatment by selvagem, carrot green and joakim. those who experienced listening to the original maria rita version of cantico brasileiro nº3 (kamaiura) on the dancefloor know it s such a thrilling experience that could only be better if the song was a bit longer. at the same time, it didnt make much sense to mess with the original. having these thoughts on their minds, the selvagem boys augusto olivani and millos kaiser (the minds behind selva discos) had an insight while discussing the reissue of the brasileira material with singer maria rita stumpf: why not hit the studio and remake the track? also, why not ask someone like joakim, known for his exquisite taste and brilliant production skills, to remix lamento africano/rictus? it would be the perfect package.

umeko ando (1932-2004) was a folk singer from japan. she is a representative of the ainu culture on the hokkaido island in the north of japan. iuta upopo was released on her last cd upopo sanke in 2003, produced by oki kano (oki dub ainu band). upopo is the name of a particular singing style which involves repetition, while iuta simply means song. umeko ando performs this minimalistic vocal in a brittle, emotional manner which is framed by a slow, percussive pulse and oki’s tonkori patterns (the tonkori is a string instrument of the ainu). when pingipung’s andi otto toured japan in 2017, he came across this enchanting, folkloristic and danceable song in a dj set of a friend. he made contact with oki kano who agreed to license the track from his own label chikar studio. it is pressed on vinyl for the first time. this single is part of pingipung’s ongoing concentrical series of 7inches. we are very pleased to have a m.rux remix on the b side. he is not only a brilliant original producer, as his ep in the hold (ynfnd 2016) has proved, his claim to fame is a sublime collection of edits & cuts (for free on his bandcamp) which skillfully takes classics by nina simone, townes van zandt and others to the slowhouse dancefloor. his remix adds a gliding subbass, a kickdrum and occasional claps to the enhanced percussive structures of the original. umeko ando’s vocals adapt seamlessly to m.rux’s powerful electronic production

pathway traxx strikes again with this vinyl only underground bomb featuring 2 of the hottest stars in the underground scene, jack wickham and michael james. this 4 track ep delivers punchy underground sounds all designed for the dancefloor. label boss niko maxen serves up both original tracks spanning rolling romanian tech, through to pumping house inspired minimal. jack wickhams rework of the original falls right into his signature sound that has seen his tracks become the staple diet of artists such as raresh and rhadoo. michael james steps up to remix duties on the track cobra and gives us a perfect example of why he is being chased down by some of the biggest underground labels around. this ep is nothing short of an all round banger!

despite his low profile, ken karter might be one of berlin s most influential artists in the techno scene. karter is known as a mastering engineer for the seminal m_rec ltd, however his own productions have gone largely unnoticed until his 2015 ep on stroboscopic artefact’s monad series. his ep turned heads and gained him well-deserved attention. two years later, his follow-up ep on escapism exemplifies his focus on quality over quantity. his passion for mathematical formulas combined with his intricate knowledge of sound created an outstanding record set to satisfy both fans of experimental and dancefloor techno.

rotterdam based duo arkvs release “oppression” ep through the prruk black series. the result is an exciting package of futuristic techno sounds and searing drums. the duo has managed to find a perfectly executed trip throughout the different sides of arkvs. while the general tone is darkish throughout, there are some uplifting atmospheres and hints of hope to be found in this package. while the title track is a thumping piece of dancefloor techno, the cinematic voyage “our deepest fear” is a stand-out production of adventurous electronics. on the b-side we find “chose to defy”, which is a tough work of dark techno and the somewhat more mellow “nonviolence” on which an intrusive bassline is combined with some beautiful synth sounds.

undersound recordings is back with a new electro infused ep called “backyard alchemy”, this time courtesy of the trio eoism. the a side showcases two classic fast tempo electro dancefloor killers, “xontics” and “transmutation scheme”, plus a special bonus idm track on a3, “volatile conjunction”. the b side is dedicated to dreamy and melodic synth driven tracks like “cold fire equation” and “anima dissolution”.

tv showw is a new record label from paris. we are very proud to launch the label with an ep from one of chicago s most prolific and inventive electronic musicians : jamal moss a.k.a. hieroglyphic being or i.b.m., among others. jai/mahl is his fresh new alias especially created for this ep. the three tracks are made for the dancefloor (four-to-the-floor) while not diluting his signature oddity made of sonic textures and damaged rhythms. moss calls his style -synth expressionism- or -rhythmic cubism.-

benny l is the latest name we’re delighted to welcome to the metalheadz family, as the young producer delivers a ferocious 4 track ep entitled route zero, where the crunchiest of basslines meets the heftiest of drums, with old skool flavours, atmospherics and effects thrown in on top too.
low blow, the lead track, has featured in the sets of goldie, noisia, randall, doc scott and many more for a while now, and has already achieved the status of dancefloor killer well ahead of its release. benny l continues on this path throughout the ep, showcasing a colossal sound that we’re very happy to have on the label.

smashed atoms make a return after launching the magic circles label earlier in the year, bringing more of that sassy disco flavoured house music with a fondness for the good old way of doing things. the nods to rapture are hard to ignore on cut this way even if the ingredients are fresh, and there s no denying its the perfect formula for an addictive dancefloor cut with an old-skool hip hop monologue over the top. lost someone is a more sprightly affair that plays off bouncy synth lines and another discoid drum groove to create its infectious good time message.

for their 12th label anniversary, jazz & milk have decided to launch a new series called “twelve inch jams” in order to celebrate vinyl culture and the legendary 12&#8243,,, format! jams002 sounds the bell for the second round of the series including a 10 years re-issue of the classic sam irl cut “you don’t feel enough”. originally released as a b1 tune on his “african dance ep” debut on pulver records in 2007, this jazzy house gem found its way into the record bags of many influential djs over the years. from session victim, glenn astro, max graef to hodini… the record never disappeared in club sets but certainly from discogs a good while ago. so it was about time to give the tune a second life and finally press it on the format it deserves - a whole 12&#8243,,, side. the german production duo session victim are well-known fans of the track describing it as their secret weapon playing it in quite many dj sets for years, including their 2015 appearance for mixmag’s dj lab. hence, it is a great pleasure that session victim contributed a remix to the new release. their absolutely elegant and groove-driven version with a charming 90’s touch to it makes a brillant counterpart to the original with its jazzy piano-, drum- and double bass samples leading to an epic synth break that regularly causes ecstatic moments on the dancefloor.

valcrond video continues its devilish run of form with this new single from fallbeil, a project that has previously been spotted on new york haunted, return to disorder and mannequin. that should give you an idea of the kind of deviant sonics we re dealing with here, skirting around industrial, electro and techno with limber and dirty hardware jams for the sinister dancefloor. rolling dutch clearly nods towards the hague way of doing things, all eerie pads, gnarly acid lines and rasping drums, while on the flip side rave on plastic pushes the bubbling monosynth action to the front of the mix.

french producer okain has long been entrenched in the minimal house movement, from time spent on four:twenty and tsuba through to memoria, no fit state and now shoring up on dogmatik. babylon is a sharply focused workout with playful organ trills darting in and out of the mix, while radio therapy gets into a light-headed, bubbly state of mind thanks to some shimmering synth work. permeable drops a little dubby magic on the track and r4r5r6 finishes the ep off with a more muscular groover for when you need to keep the energy up on the dancefloor.

first up is mekko sekko an early evening shuffler full of all max’s trademark sounds subtly charming the most horizontal listener onto the dancefloor.

vancouver based producer, woodhead, adds masterworks music to his list of accomplishments with the minty fresh 12” ep, -deeper than love- just around the corner. after making his bed with the likes of editorial, royal soul and homebreakin , it’s no surprise masterworks would be all hot and heavy over these thumpin cuts.
kicking things off on the sleazy tip is -be with you,- a mid-tempo funk number that carries an irresistible vibe, bumpin moog bassline and a chug that is sure to inspire more than one dancefloor to do the hustle. taking things a bit deeper is -i love you,- with it’s hypnotic chords, brooding sub-bass and twirling groove.
flip the disc over to catch -love so fine,- which lightens things up a tad thanks to a shuffling rhythm and layers of chords and soulful vocals. ep closer, -whenever you’re around- amps things up with a heavy dose of 80’s chunk and funk… serious business to get the party all hot and sticky.

poker flat label boss and genuine dance music legend steve bug teams up with langenberg for this excellent two track ep. langenberg has released an unfathomable number of dancefloor fillers under various monikers on labels such as drumpoet community, mule, ovum or styrax leaves and recently released his debut album central heated house on dessous. langenberg is also one half of the project ribn. chord cluster has summer anthem written all over deep yet euphoric, spacy yet danceable, and ultimately a deeply emotive piece of house music that will bring smiles to faces all year. the rhythm track is tight yet remains loose and funky, while the pads and synths dip into just the right amount of acid to keep the ravers lost in the moment. the teaze treads similar ground arpeggiated pulses lead the arrangement, while a chicago influenced groove brings a shuffle to proceedings the joy in the track is evident it s clear the guys were having a lot of fun in the studio.

dj and producer reggie dokes, along with detroit colleague brian neal, come together for a moving and soulful presentation: detroit luv ep. intertwining both house and techno elements seamlessly in homage to the detroit techno and house legacy. artist brian neal may be unknown to most, but he has been creating music for years. here we find the artist tapped by mr. dokes, presenting his music for the first time in vinyl format. this melodic, dancefloor material, is sure to bring brian neal to the spotlight.

rodhad’s debut album ‘anxious’ sees the artist step away from the dancefloor and further develop the narrative qualities of his beautiful soundscapes. it was the natural next step to present the sound he began cultivating with his recent eps “kinder der ringwelt” and “söhne der erde” as a full length lp. the experience the album is trying to convey is being thrown into a world that is ready to crush you.they have you with your back to the wall, and you are ready to give way to despair. will you be able fight back? how is it even possible? rodhad is the spearhead of a new generation of techno producers and djs. with his bass heavy grooves and dubby atmospheric soundscapes he is a sonic guide, knowing exactly where he wants to take the crowd, leading through the inexhaustible sounds of techno music in all its beauty and gloom. he fully immerses himself into the music, yet never loses himself. growing up in berlin’s rougher outskirts, as a teenager he was able to grasp the final flashings of berlin’s mythical nightlife of the 1990s at legendary places casino and ostgut. in the late 2000s the dystopian crew began their own series of parties and then the label with two seminal releases by rodhad, “1984” and “blindness”.

berlin based mannequin records pushes out some proper industrial/ebm bangers. raised in pescara on the adriatic coast and ow based in frankfurt am main antonio barbetta is debuting on death of the machines as raw ambassador. the heavy four track ep is created to burn every dancefloor with full industrial vibes and a lot of ebm influences, giving us a small insight into his violent and rough sound. antonio is also running the smashing tape record label, with releases from violet poison, innsyter, dj loser and delivery. tip!!!

next up on bucharest’s raw tools label is börft co-founder, johan sturesson, also known to be part of the swedish electronic trio, frak. the four-track ep consists in music from the private vaults of the producer, that has been kept secret for almost 20 years. rough and gritty, his analogue approach and stripped down sound define the record. starting with the rave sounding “uncle owl” and then moving to a more darkly atmospheric title track, kord shows his muscles on the flipside with some more techno infused and bass driven dancefloor cuts.
always under the radar, johan has been operating raw electronics since the late 80’s, developing his distinctive sound. as kord, he has released on several swedish labels, including his own imprint. together with jan svensson and björn isgren as frak, they have released music on labels such as kontra musik, lux rec and midlight records.

lowwaxx open doors for a very special welcome to the well established uk scene producer tommy vicary jnr, signing label s 3rd release with 2 originals bangers as well as a remix by fuse london regular rich nxt. opening up matters is the sounds of the title track. a moody effort that s notable for its many haunting tones and a reluctance to follow a straight path, it s the sort of intricate bomb that gets under the listener s skin from the get go. difficult to pigeonhole but still full of dancefloor panache. an auspicious start to the release with a track that s sure to get you talking. the b-side then gets underway courtesy of -best way-. this time, the emphasis is more firmly placed on tidy rhythms and straight up baselines, though this one also demonstrates the producer s knack for the unexpected. a whole peaceful landscape trip decorated with overwhelming chords placed on tidy rhythms and straight up baselines. culminating the release is the sounds of rich nxt, who delivers a stunning remix of -best way-. indebted to deep tropes and imbued with a catchy-as-hell baseline.

gary shider joins the p-funk gang and they hit paydirt with the dancefloor power of the title track, and the much sampled ‘nappy dugout’.

hollands house & techno kingpin de sluwe vos kept his best work until today to be released on his patron imprint. a four tracker which combines low tempo sharp synths as well as dancefloor shakers with rolling snares and undeniable claps for a dark and sweaty night club setting. as he is equipped with a deeply rooted understanding of club music, de sluwe vos raised the bar with this release for the future releases on the patron records imprint.

leroy burgess - one of the pioneers of boogie, a legendary figure in the nyc disco scene and all-out originator is well known by dance music aficionados across the globe for his output. his logg project from the early 80’s especially has acquired a cult status amongst diggers, released on salsoul in 1981 and boasting mixes from larry levan the lp became an instant club classic that still commands the dancefloor in 2017. salsoul is a label that isn’t afraid to bridge the gap between their hugely groundbreaking catalogue and contemporary dance music. they understand the impact and influence their music has had on dj culture and embrace it wholly. step up uk underground producer marquis hawkes who originally approached salsoul with this set of killer reworkings that had long been private versions that featured in his sets. having dropped ep’s for labels such as dixon avenue basement jams, aus music, houndstooth and many more his name is firmly planted in the minds of record fiends across the nation. adopting a classic us style of production, using analog gear, dope loops and chops and finessing it all with his own grittiness, hawkes seemed a good fit to remix 2 stellar joints from logg s catalogue. something else and i know you will both get cut up, re-edited and laced with rock solid drum programming by hawkes on this sublime 12’’. lovingly tweaked with just the right amount of rawness for the dance this one won t leave your bag anytime soon! pure peak-time sounds here, another example of salsoul embracing the sounds of now and breathing freshness into their untouchable catalogue. essential.

marlon hoffstadt is a rising star as both a dj and producer, effortlessly joining the dots between classic rave and the future of techno. taking a break from running his retrograde label, marlon has cooked up observing the known for ransom note records. over three tracks of warm synths, bubbly acid and emotional chord progressions, the ep sees marlon reimagining house music for todays dancefloor, taking the passion and energy of ‘80s chicago and giving it the production heft of 2017 berlin. opener ‘floating’ is a piano house classic, shot through with chimes and 303 gurgles, nostalgic for a golden age whilst optimistically looking forward. this is peak time house for dancefloors with heart. it’s followed by the computerised funk of ‘arp+’, an acid house roller that teams jacking 303 bass with mournful strings, as sorrowful as it is uplifting. b-side opener ‘batavus’ is a driving tribute to detroit, kevin saunderson-esque keys stabbing over soaring washes of synth, the sound of late nights and starry eyes. london-based scott fraser has added a remix of arp+ that takes marlons classic techno to darker lands, with snapping electro drums and deliberately seasick bass pressure ramping up the claustrophobia. this mix has already been causing huge damage when dropped on dubplate at fraser’s feted body hammer night.

astrophonica welcomes lewis james to the fold with the shapeshifter ep. a professional sound designer and life long musician, london-based lewis james first appeared on the label via the gradients compilation in early 2017. with this ep he celebrates his love of jungle and drum & bass across four tracks that combine analogue and digital processes to create what he calls, -a spaced out identity, somewhere between science fiction and the dancefloor.-

for the first single from rooteo & mahura’s mett album and our second release on made in green records, we present the standout sincrotune, backed with a heavier interpretation of dub techno mastermind and legend deadbeat. one of the album’s most memorable and experimental pieces, sincrotune transports tinges of the eastern influences from the full-length into a more exploratory mindset, ricocheting bells and detuned, bending string samples moving through layers of alien ambiance and a steady, heavy bass pulse at dancefloor tempo pushing it forward forcefully.
